Extension task:

Seven and panic room were directed by the same person

Camera/Angle/Shot

Seven and Panic room are both thrillers. Even though they have the same genre they are both very different types of films. the openings to these films are different. in Seven the camera focuses on a man working whereas in panic room it focuses on buildings. They have similar camera angles e.g. they both have close up shots but they are on different things e.g. in seven there is a close up a man hands turning pages but in panic room there is close up of buildings. other shots that are the same is an birds eye view shot. Through most of the oepning of seven the camera angles are close ups, but where as in seven there is all different ones such as close up, birds eyes view, long shot, low angle ahot, high angle shot and a tracking shot.

Sound

In both of the openings, it has non diegetic sound. In seven the music sounds very dramtic and intense, they do this becuase it makes you want to continue watching it. but whereas in panic room the music sounds intense but you get a different view of it. in seven you get the idea that you know something has happened. in panic room you get the idea that something mysterious is going to happen.

Editing

In seven Seven it has been edited so that you are unsure what is happening, they give of clues to what is happening and what is going to happen e.g. you see the man writing alot of information. but whereas in panic room you cant tell what is going to happen because it has been edited so you are unsure. the only thing that the editor has shown is the location. You can tell that the editor is good as the person who edited Seven also edited Panic Room.

Mise en scene

The mise en scene in both openings are very different. In seven it is mainly his hands that are shown. His hands are doing many things. The show things such a paper, books, pens. Also at the beginning is shown a blade where he is slicing his skin of his finger. this is trying to give clues on what the film is about. in panic room During the beginning all you see is buildings, cars roads, this suggests that it is a busy place as there is lots of buildings with lots of traffic. these both are very different and could suggest different things.

Characters:

In the opening of seven all you can see is the hand of a man. And in Panic Room you don’t see no one. so both of the films are mysterious as you don’t know who is going to be in the film.

Locations:

We are unknown where the man is in Seven because all you can see is his hands. this is the opposite to Panic Room because it is filmed outside in America.

Narrative:

In both of the films we are unsure on what the narrative is about. In seven it could be something mysterious e.g. maybe a murder. In Panic Room we are also unsure but at the beginning you hear sirens which could suggest that something is going to happen.
